Joanna Hardy adopts a Sea Creature

I was absolutely delighted when the Antique Road Show’s jewellery expert, Joanna Hardy, acquired one of my Sea Creatures at Goldsmiths’ Fair. The orange Sea Creature looks resplendent on its new owner. Part of a recent series of work which includes the decorative Japanese technique ‘Kum Boo’ - where small pieces of 24ct gold foil are fused onto the surface of hot silver to create a permanent bond. Thrilled to have joined such an illustrious collection as Joanna’s.

A Thousand Facets Selects for Dazzle

Delighted my Looped Doily Brooch has been selected by US jewellery aficionado, a Thousand Facets, as one their favourite four pieces from this year’s Dazzle Invites. Dazzle Invites is a seasonal show exhibiting the mainly new and one off pieces by 30 selected makers. It is an honour to have had this piece chosen by A Thousand Facets whose eye is well known in the sector. The brooch is as they suggest visually inspired by the Victorian era and I have been told it resembles an antique stomacher - brooches worn to fasten corsets and create drama on a ladies bodice.

See A Thousand Facets section for Dazzle Invites here.

See my group for Dazzle Invites here until 8th January 2023.

Hundreds & Thousands featured in Forbes

Hundreds and Thousands Brooch and cake stack caught the eye of Forbes Journalist Kate Matthams at Goldmsiths’ Fair 2022 - the 40th edition of the Fair. She featured it in her write up of the highlights from the Fair for Forbes. Such a pleasure to be in such fine company alongside two of my personal faves Romilly Saumarez Smith and Lucy Gledhill.

I am delighted to say that Hundreds and Thousands found its new home during the Fair but I am sure there will be more cakes in the future.

Crafts Council career profile

Earlier in the year I was invited to share my professional journey into the fine craft/ jewellery sectors as a second careerer who had trained in adult education. As art colleges become more and more squeezed for funding, and many courses especially in 3D Design and Jewellery are closing, my journey has become a more common one. This profile is one of a number the Crafts Council have commissioned in order to demystify how to train and get out into this world. My profile was originally launched during National Careers Week. Every year I look forward to devouring the exceptionally crafted objects at the Crafts Council’s flagship show. I will be exhibiting with Design Nation UK a portfolio organisation whose members include many leading crafts people in their fields. Design Nation will be showing the work of 20 makers across a range of disciplines with a focus on textiles and metal which makes them stand out in the vast array of vessels on show at Collect.
